We’re sending out 1000+ advance copies today to lead pastors, discipleship pastors, and campus pastors. When everything is said and done, between the books I’m personally giving away and the books my publisher is giving away, we’ll give away 5000+ copies of Primal: A Quest for the Lost Soul of Christianity.
When In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day released I think we gave away 250 copies. So we’ve seriously upped the ante. Giving away books has become part of my book philosophy. Obviously, content is king. If your book isn’t a good read, it doesn’t matter how many books you give away. It won’t sell. But you can write a great book and never sell more than 5000 copies like 97% of books that are published simply because you never get a groundswell of readers. One way to get a groundswell is a book giveaway.
Want to sell more books? Give away more books. If you have a subtraction mentality, a book given is a book NOT sold. If you have a multiplication mentality, and really believe in the book, a book given multiplies into more books sold.
If you give for the right reasons, to simply bless others, God uses it and blesses it. Whether it’s giving cash or giving a book or giving your time. Giving is a way of relinquishing control. You put responsibility for the results into the hands of God.
The moment we mail the books, I feel like Primal is out of my hands and in the hands of God.
