I pray for favor more than anything else. I believe divine favor is God doing something for you that you can’t do for yourself. And there is nothing like His favor relationally, intellectually, financially, and spiritually. I covet favor. And there are different kinds of favor referenced in Scripture.
The favor of Daniel is difficult to peg, but I believe it’s an organizational favor or favor with those in positions of great authority. Think of it as favor with “the powers that be.” And that favor opens up doors of opportunity. But also notice that it involves a sacrifice and a risk. Favor isn’t just something granted without any action on the part of those who are favored. There is a human decision that positions us for favor. In this instance, it’s a resolution to fast. And the time line is ten days. Daniel disrupts the status quo by abstaining from the king’s food and drink, which could have resulted in disfavor! But that single risk resulted in unbelievable favor!
