Just did an interview with Jay Thomas on Sirrius radio. I thought it was a podcasting interview. Turned into a Hurricane Katrina interview. Radio is all about soundbytes. And it’s awfully hard to answer the toughest questions like “how could God let this happen” in two sentences. But I did the best I could.
I’m amazed at the openness of relatively irreligious people during this kind of tragedy. It forces everyone to ask the “how” and “why” questions. I don’t have all the answers. In fact, some questions won’t be answered this side of eternity.
I think unexplained experiences and unanswered questions are the toughest tests we face. Sometimes there isn’t an answer key at the back of the book. But I do know that death is not the end of life. And that hope is the fuel that keeps someone going when they experience this kind of tragegdy.
