A few months ago we began a rebranding process as a church. I know that can sound gimmicky. It wasn’t. It involved lots of soul searching!
The goal was to discover our double-helix. What is our DNA as a church? What is our unique Kingdom niche? In a nutshell, two words capture the essence of NCC: relentless reimagining. If the Kingdom of God had departments, we’d work in R & D.
As a writer and speaker, my driving passion is saying old things in new ways. In other words, I want to help people reimagine God, reimagine themselves, and reimagine the world. Obviously, that reimagining takes place through the prism of Scripture. And the ultimate goal is glorifying God.
In keeping with our DNA, I gave our team an assignment this week. If you had to redefine your position in a more creative way, what would your new title be? It can be a reflection of “what you really do”, “value you add to the team,” or “your unique gifts, passions and skill-set.” Feel free to come up with more than one title. Be creative. Have fun. And don’t worry about over-exaggerating your importance.
Anxious to see the new titles our team comes up with.
Why invest the time and energy in this little exercise? Because we need to be constantly reevaluating what we do and why we do it.
By the way, I think the genesis of this goes back to my college days when I was a ditch digger. Back breaking work. And not very glamorous! So we decided to change our title to earth relocation engineer. Had a little more distinguished ring to it. And it changed our perception of what we were doing.
