Recapturing Your Childhood

Some of the greatest moments in life are those moments when you recapture your childhood in some form or fashion. That’s how I feel as Josiah and I head to Dallas for Super Bowl XLV. I feel like the eight year-old.

As a kid, I remember it was hard to fall asleep when I was filled with anticipation. It was that way before vacation, holidays, and games. It was a like an epic battle between tiredness and excitement. That is how I’ve felt all week. Part of it might be that I’m doing something I’ve never done before and that resurrects those childlike feelings of excitement. It was a similar feeling when I went paragliding in Peru with Parker last year and attempted the Escape from Alcatraz with Summer. But even more than the experience itself is the fact that it’s a shared experience with my kids. That is what makes it so meaningful.

My kids make me feel like a kid. And that is one of the great joys of parenting. You get to experience childhood a second time. And when you’re a grandparent, you get to experience it a third time.
