I try to find ways throughout the year to mix up my routine and change my normal patterns. One way to do it is by using the church calendar to experiment with a variety of spiritual disciplines. For example, I always fast something for forty days during Lent.

A few years ago I decided to experiment with a ten-day Pentecost Fast patterned after the Acts example. The basic premise was this: you can’t plan Pentecost. But if you seek God for ten days with raw intensity like the early believers did, Pentecost might just happen.

Just thought I’d throw it out there in case some others want to do a ten-day Pentecost Fast. Technically, the ten-day period started yesterday but better a day late and dollar short than ten days late and ten dollars short right?
