Our family went to see Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian last night. Fun movie. But what made it even more fun is that we saw it at the Air and Space Museum IMAX. It was sort of surreal seeing scenes that were shot a few feet from where we were watching it. It was like watching a movie on the movie set.

My favorite lines?

“We’re NOT going to attack RIGHT NOW.” Followed by an attack.
“These animatronics suck.” Followed by a huge Dinosaur roar.

One part of movie captured my imagination. The paintings at the National Gallery of Art come to life. In one painting of a winter scene with skaters, a little girl throws a snowball out of a painting and hits Larry (Ben Stiller). Then Larry and Amelia Earhart jump into the famous picture of the sailor kissing the nurse in Time Square on VJ Day. I thought that was so cool and so creative.

If paintings came alive and you could jump into one, which paintings would you choose?

It’s awfully hard to narrow it down, but Leonardo Da Vinci’s The Last Supper would top the list. And I love the historical paintings in the Capitol Rotunda. Love to jump into The Embarkation of the Pilgrims or The Landing of Columbus. I have a book on Washington, DC called Then and Now. Love to jump into an old painting of DC and walk the city streets 200 years ago. And I’m a huge Ansel Adams fan. Love to jump into one of those picturesque scenes. I’d probably jump into a Norman Rockwell too. Finally, I love John Martin’s 1827 painting of Joshua Commanding the Sun to Stand Still.

Alright, enough daydreaming for one day.
