As I drove up to Baltimore yesterday for our Annual Planning Retreat I was overwhelmed with the faithfulness of God. This is our 12th annual retreat and every year God not only delivers on His promises, but He also has a a few holy surprises up His Sovereign sleeve.
We were a church of less than 200 people and an annual budget below $200,000 12 years ago, but we had God-sized dreams. I’m so grateful for where we’ve come from and I’m so excited about where we’re headed. Where will we be 12 years from now? I have no idea, but I know this. We overestimate what we can do in a year and we underestimate what God can do in a decade! The God who began a good work is going to carry it to completion if we continue to pray like it depends on God and work like it depends on Him. And the incredible thing about investing your life in something is the compound effect. It doesn’t add up. It multiplies exponentially.
We need to raise $3.8 million so we can build our Dream Center cash, but the net result won’t just be a Dream Center. God will use that dream to stretch our faith. Going after a dream isn’t just about doing something great for God. It’s about God doing something great in us!
Look out 2013! 25 mission trips. A Dream Center in Anacostia. A cafe in Berlin. Our 7th location in the DC metro area. But it’s all about, always about, one more person surrendering their life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
“Not to us, O Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and FAITHFULNESS.” Psalm 115:1Nov 8, 2012 | Mark Batterson
