Ethiopia: Crazy Roosters

One of the things that I really noticed the first night was the different sounds. I’m used to sirens and honking horns as I go to sleep in DC. The first night was like trying to sleep in the middle of an animal concert. Unfortunately, there a rooster that evidently couldn’t tell time that lived in our neighborhood. He started crowing at 3:30 AM every morning! You could also hear muslim chanting and praying very early in the morning before the sunrise. And the dogs were howling machines. One night a bunch of my teammates got up around 3:30 AM (thanks to the Rooster) and there was someone in the bathroom so we went outside to water the garden. I think every dog in the neighborhood started howling at the top of their barks! I was so inspired I started singing Who Let the Dogs Out.
