Our digital pastor, David Russell, just shared some interesting webcast stats with me. Total viewing time in 2007 was 14,958,439 seconds or a little more than 173 days. We delivered 1,132,691 megabytes of total data. And our webcast reached all 50 states plus 83 countries. Can you say word of mouse!
I view our webcast as church on demand. Props to Dave Clark, our pastor of media, for that concept. It’s certainly NO SUBSTITUTE for church. But it’s a great supplement. It not only expands our worldwide influence exponentially. We’re also discovering that more and more people watch the webcast before visiting a service. It’s our taste test.
For what it’s worth, 54% of our attenders visited theaterchurch.com before coming to a service. This is old news but a healthy reminder: your website is the front door to your church! It’s your first impression. Especially with our demographic–about 66% of NCCers are single twenty-somethings.
When Jesus said, “Go into all the world,” I think he meant by all means possible. I think “the world” includes places like facebook and myspace. We’re actually putting together a facebook advertising campaign right now. After all, that is the demographic we’re going after! I think we need to rethink the way we define influence. And we need to keep redeeming technology and using it for God’s purposes!
In the words of the Apostle Paul: “I become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might reach some.”
