As I was reading through the gospels last year I developed a growing conviction: the good news ought to make the news!
Anybody else get tired of all the bad news? I think more churches ought to be doing more things that make the news.
Even so, I’m a little suprised at the amount of press we’ve gotten recently. We’re in a major market–Washington, DC. It’s not like there is a shortage of stories. But our CBS affiliate did a two-minute segment on NCC in November. And Fox News filmed our services yesterday and did a great story on the 10 o’clock news. Maybe I shouldn’t be surprised, but I really marvel at the positive tone of the stories. We’ll try to castpost it later this week.
I think Jesus would have been CNN all the time. Not as a PR scheme or photo op. There’s just no way they could have ignored him! He was too newsworthy!
Can’t you see the headlines?
5,000 miraculously fed
Nazarene turns Water into Wine
Man Born Blind Healed
If we’re showing the love of Christ in practical ways, creatively reaching out to our communities, and impacting people’s lives then we ought to be making the evening news. I think that is part of what it means to be buzzworthy.
The good news ought to make news!
