48 Page Inspection

The Battersons are moving. One block that is. We bought a house less than a block away from our current home and we sold our house last week. Like any home purchase, the buyers did an inspection but it lasted about five hours! I knew that wasn’t a good sign.

Long story short, the inspection report was 48 pages. Our inspection on our new home was 3 pages. Honestly, 80% of the things that the inspector found wrong are probably issues that every row house on Capitol Hill has. Why? The houses are all a hundred years old. Some of the items were certainly legitimate concerns. But some of them were ridiculous. A few of my favorites? Ashes in flue, dirty vents, and a stained toilet tank. Seriously? People live in the house!

The poor buyers. I think the inspection took all the joy out of buying a house! If I were them, I probably would have been scared out of the contract. Now here’s the kicker. The inspector messed with our plumbing in our second story bath and caused a leak that stained our ceiling on the first level. Nice!

It’s been a crazy week. Just grateful our house sold.
